What is Silk Sojourn?

Silk Sojourn is a boutique travel agency specializing in immersive and culturally rich travel experiences. We provide tailored itineraries, educational travel coordination, and group travel logistics for individuals, schools, and organizations.

Who do you work with?

We work with individual travelers, small groups, and large educational institutions. 

Where do you plan trips?
We curate trips around the globe, with a special focus on regions we’ve personally experienced or where we have vetted cultural ambassadors. We also work with partners in new regions and always disclose when a destination is outside our specialty area.

What services do you offer?

  • Custom itinerary planning (hourly or flat rate)

  • Full-service trip coordination (booking, logistics, and support)

  • Educational and study abroad program planning

  • Cultural ambassador support

  • Add-on services like visa help, trip support, private tours

How much do your services cost?

We offer:

  • Custom Itinerary Planning: $35–$50/hr

  • Full Planning + Booking: 15% of total costs + $100 service fee (for individuals and small groups)

  • School Group Packages: Custom quotes are provided after consultation

  • Add-Ons: Dedicated photographer, visa assistance, 24/7 trip support, etc.

What is the timeline for planning and delivering my trip?
The timeline depends on how far in advance you contact us and the length of your trip. We require at least 14 days before your travel date to plan a custom itinerary. For trips requested 7–13 days in advance, a rush fee applies. Timely client responses and clear preferences help us deliver faster.

 

Delivery of your final itinerary varies based on trip duration:

  • 1–7 day trips: ready within 7 days

  • 8–21 day trips: ready within 14 days

  • 30+ day trips: ready within 21 days 

Do you charge extra for last-minute planning?

Yes. If travel is within 14 days:

7–13 days before travel: +10% expedited fee (for full bookings) or $100 (for itinerary only)

Less than 7 days: Planning is not guaranteed but may be considered case-by-case

ITINERARIES & BOOKING

What is the process?

  1. Initial consultation

  2. 50% deposit paid

  3. Planning begins

  4. Up to two drafts sent for feedback

  5. Final version prepared

  6. Client pays remaining balance

  7. Itinerary is released

  8. Optional on-trip support available

Am I responsible for my bookings?
Once we’ve provided the itinerary and confirmed bookings:

  • You are responsible for flight/hotel check-ins

  • You must reach out directly to tour operators for any activity changes or support

  • Silk Sojourn is not responsible for third-party changes, cancellations, or customer service unless tour operation services were explicitly contracted

What if I want to cancel a booking?
Clients are responsible for contacting the vendors (hotels, tour companies, airlines) directly. We always aim to select options with cancellation/change protection.

CUSTOMIZATION & SURVEYS

Can I choose the type of accommodation I want?
Yes. Our surveys ask about your preference (Airbnb, hotel, vacation rental, etc.) to ensure alignment with your travel style.

How do you choose activities and tours?

We base selections on your interests, group needs, and what's culturally relevant in the destination. When working with students, we send a detailed survey to faculty to share with them.

What if I’m traveling to a new destination Silk Sojourn hasn’t been to?
We disclose if a location is outside our specialty regions. While we do our best to research and vet every experience, we cannot guarantee outcomes in unfamiliar regions.

Can tour companies or vendors partner with Silk Sojourn?

Yes! We are always seeking long-term relationships with trusted tour companies and cultural service providers. We offer consistent group bookings and commission opportunities.
